Report: Samsung Electronics to manufacture Google’s second-generation Tensor on 4nm process
A new report from Naver cites industry sources that Samsung Electronics foundries will begin mass-producing Google’s second-generation Tensor chipset on the 4nm process this month. Google revealed it would launch two new Pixel 7 models in the fall – these new devices would feature the new chipset. The other thing mentioned was the use of PLP technology. “PLP is a packaging technique which chips cut from a wafer are placed on a rectangular panel. It is possible to minimize the discarded edge, thereby reducing cost and improving productivity.” Samsung is reportedly in close talks with...

The Google Pixel Watch is a highly anticipated wearable and is expected to swap more users towards using WearOS. The latest report comes from 9to5Google who cites a source that gives insight into the battery life expected on the recently teased Pixel Watch. According to the source, the Google Pixel Watch is said to last up to a day on a single charge. Redmi sells 270,000 Note 11T Pro units in one hour
Redmi's recently unveiled Redmi Note 11T Pro for the Chinese market had its first sale earlier today, and it was a very successful one. Redmi general manager Lu Weibing reports that the brand managed to sell over 270,000 units in just one hour. While he doesn't go into specifics, we assume that means both the Note 11T Pro and the Note 11T Pro+ taken together. Still, it's a very impressive achievement, and it looks like the Chinese really like these phones. Hopefully that means they will be launched in other markets too in the future, although at this point it's anyone's guess if that ends...

Upcoming Moto G42 runs Geekbench powered by the Snapdragon 680 SoC
Motorola's ever-expanding mid-range G line is bound to do some even more expanding in the next few weeks or so. And one of the models coming up is the Moto G42, already leaked in neat-looking press renders earlier this month. The phone was also certified by a bunch of regulatory bodies, and now we get an additional piece to its puzzle. That's because a prototype Moto G42 ran Geekbench 5, and as usual this means its results are now available for the whole world to see in the benchmark's online database. Not just that, though, but also a couple of important specs. Namely, thanks...

Just as the scrolls foretold, the new device has a Dimensity 1300 chipset and a big battery. vivo also introduced a Y33e phone, which is largely identical to the Y33s 5G but with half the RAM and slower charging. The T2x is vivo’s first phone with the new Mediatek chipset that has a 3.0 GHz CPU and a Mali-G77 graphics unit. The 6.58” LCD has Full HD+ resolution, and vivo decided to keep it traditional with the front-facing camera - a waterdrop notch for the 8MP shooter. There are only two...

Flashback: some crazy phones had three or even four SIM card slots
How many SIM slots does your phone have? In some regions dual-SIM models are quite popular, though in recent years eSIM (embedded SIM) has started taking over from the secondary slot for an external card. Many carriers offer low cost roaming or there is no roaming at all (e.g. within the EU), so having the option to pop in a extra card from a local carrier has become less important. But this is now, a decade ago some makers weren’t sure how many phone lines you may need in your pocket. One? Two? Four? Let’s start with the loneliest number. As we explained in a previous installment, the...

Weekly poll results: Huawei Mate Xs 2 struggles to justify its price tag
Most people feel that foldables are too expensive – not that we had any doubt that is still the case, but last week’s poll reaffirms that belief. Unfortunately for the Huawei Mate Xs 2, it’s not only the price that is dissuading people from wanting one, the outward-folding design may have been a bad idea. A common theme emerged while reading through the comments – €2,000 for a phone with a year old chipset, no 5G and no Google Play Store is too much. The lack of access to parts and services was caused by trade sanctions against Huawei and the situation is unlikely to change...

Weekly poll results: the Sony Xperia 1 IV and 10 IV are great, if you can afford them
This is the blight of the Sony fan – last week’s poll shows that 3 in 4 people want to buy the new flagship, the Xperia 1 IV, but only 1 in 4 actually have the money for it. The rest wish it was cheaper, but that might take a while. The Mark 3 started at €1,300 a year ago. Today, you can find one for around €900 with some shopping around. But the Mark 4 starts at €1,400, so if it falls the same amount, it will still be a €1,000 phone a year from now. Ouch. With rising inflation and an uncertain economy not everyone has Xperia 1 money to spend. Few people found faults in the hardware,...

Google Pixel Watch memory and storage amounts leak
As you may know, the Pixel Watch is coming. Long a figment of tech enthusiasts' imaginations, this year it's actually real - Google itself confirmed as much, seemingly unable to keep it a secret even though the launch is only happening "this fall", which probably translates into October. So, we have a few months of Pixel Watch leaks ahead of us, and the latest one from about a week ago told us that the wearable would use Samsung's Exynos 9110 chipset. That's a bit concerning since that SoC came out in 2018 and is built on a 10nm process. Today a new source seemingly corroborates the...

Some T-Mobile users experience bug with eSIM on iPhones
Yesterday afternoon, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman Tweeted about an issues that some T-Mobile customers are experiencing on iPhones. Specifically, some lines activated with eSIM were suddenly deactivated from iMessage and FaceTime with no way to re-activate the line with Apple’s core communication services. There is a very nasty iPhone and @TMobile bug where iMessage and FaceTime for a device’s phone number will randomly deactivate and there is no way to reactivate it. The only solution that worked for me is getting a new physical SIM card. An extremely disappointing issue.— Mark Gurman...

Ever since it got caught in the US vs. China crossfire, Huawei has had to develop its own software solutions, as it's banned from using Google's. One of those is AppGallery, and it's basically Huawei's version of the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. AppGallery apparently has a pretty huge issue, one which, according to one developer, has gone unfixed for months even though he reported it to Huawei back in February. This flaw allows anyone with a bit of technical know-how and some time and willingness to put in a tiny bit of effort to basically download and install any paid app...
