Skoda Superb facelift spied testing in India

Skoda has begun road-testing the refreshed Superb sedan in India. The model was unveiled internationally a few months ago, replete with fresh looks that bring it more in line with the newer Skoda models sold globally.

As part of the styling update, the redesigned Superb gets a new-look grille and added chrome trimming between the rear tail-lamps. The headlamps on the updated Superb's global model comprise full-LED Matrix units – a first for any Skoda vehicle.

Apart from styling tweaks inside out, the new Superb also gets driver-assistance features like predictive cruise control. These are unlikely to make it to our market though, given the restrictions in India over the public use of certain radar frequencies.

For India, expect Skoda to introduce the updated Superb with a BS6-compliant, 2.0-litre TSI petrol unit that is good for around 188hp, since there will be no diesel version on sale in our market. Skoda has also added a plug-in hybrid version for the Superb in some global markets.

It remains to be seen whether Skoda will bring this hybrid variant to India when the Superb facelift launches in 2020. If it does, it will rival the Toyota Camry hybrid in the Indian market.

Expect Skoda to announce the pricing for the updated Superb in the coming months. Watch this space to know more.
