India-made Renault Triber exports begin

Renault India has commenced exports of the Triber seven-seater to South Africa, starting with 600 units in the first tranche of shipments from Chennai Port. The carmaker plans to expand Triber exports to other parts of Africa and SAARC countries soon.

According to Venkatram Mamillapalle, Country CEO and managing director, Renault India Operations, “With the launch of the Renault Triber, Renault forayed in the largest and the fastest-growing segment of the Indian automobile market. With more than 20,000 Tribers already sold in India, we are proud to commence the exports of the first batch of 600 Tribers to South Africa. We will continue this growth momentum and expand the exports of Triber to other parts of Africa and the SAARC region.”

The Renault Triber is an affordable seven-seater that is also sub-four-metres in length. It is built on Renault’s modular CMF-A+ platform that also underpins the Kwid hatchback. The model comes well-equipped, especially in its top trim level as an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, a digital instrument cluster, AC vents in all three rows, keyless entry, push-button start/stop, power windows, projector headlamps with LED DRLs and a rear wash-wipe are all part of the package.

Power for the Renault Triber, comes from an upgraded version of the Kwid’s 1.0-litre (BR10), three-cylinder petrol engine, which makes 72hp and 96Nm of torque. As of now, the engine can only be had with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Renault will introduce a turbocharged version of the 1.0-litre petrol engine sometime in 2020; and an AMT gearbox option is also expected to be on offer later on. The 1.0-litre petrol motor is BS4-compliant and will be upgraded to a BS6-spec unit before the April 2020 deadline.

The seven-seater has sold 18,511 units in the domestic market since its launch in August 2019 (as of end-November). In November alone, the Triber clocked sales of 6,071 units. A total of 19,954 Tribers have been produced at Renault's Chennai plant.
