A presentation by Pierer Mobility – the parent company of KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas – has surfaced online, revealing the company’s future models. The document holds some very interesting information, most notably that there will be an entirely new KTM 490 platform featuring five bikes, 890 versions of the Adventure, SMC and Enduro R, and even an electric Husqvarna scooter.
We’d previously reported that KTM-Bajaj is working on a range of new sub-500cc, twin-cylinder-powered motorcycles, and the presentation now confirms that this line-up will be called the 490. While it may sound quite close to the existing 390 platform, the 490 will probably be considerably more powerful, with power output possibly between 50-60hp. The 490 platform will consist of a model under the Naked, Adventure, Supermoto, Dual Purpose and Sport (RC) categories.
As for the larger bikes, the slide suggests that there will be an Adventure, SMC and Enduro variant based on the 890cc twin that was introduced on the 890 Duke R at EICMA. Whether these bikes will replace the 790 models in the long-term remains to be seen, but just like the 890 Duke R, they may be sold alongside their 790 siblings.
Moving on, the presentation also contains information on what Husqvarna has in store for us. For starters, there will be a 501 series of motorcycles based on the new 490cc platform, and this isn’t surprising. The document also goes on to reveal that the 401 and 501 platforms will make their way to the Supermoto and Enduro range.
Beyond the motorcycles, the presentation also reveals multiple electric two-wheelers in the portfolio, but the one that really caught our eye is the Husqvarna-branded scooter. No details apart from the fact that maximum power will be in the range of 4-11kW have been revealed. Could this be the high-performance e-scooter based on the Chetak platform? Only time will tell.
