2020 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance cancelled

The 2020 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is the latest addition to the list of events that have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 70th edition was scheduled for August 16, 2020, with the car selection process conducted recently and the selected entrants were notified earlier this month. And now with the cancellation of this year’s event, the 70th edition will take place on August 15, 2021.

In a statement to the media, William L. Perocchi, CEO of Pebble Beach Company, said, “This event does more than celebrate great cars; it benefits so many people in need. Ultimately, the continued health and safety of everyone associated with the Concours is our number one priority, which led us to this difficult decision. We recognise that cancelling the 2020 Event will be disappointing to many, although we are confident it is appropriate under these unique circumstances.”

On a positive note, the features that were planned for display earlier will remain next year. This will include the past 'Best of Show; winners along the edge of Stillwater Cove, and special classes focusing on Pininfarina coachwork, Porsche 917, Talbot-Lago Grand Sport, Miller racing, Iso, Early Electrics and the Carrera Panamericana. People who have already bought this year’s tickets can use the same for the next year’s event, and those who won’t be able to attend the next year’s show can request for a refund by emailing info@pebblebeachconcours.net.

Having started back in 1950, the Concours is one of the top-ranking collector car competition in the world. In its initial days, the competition showcased new cars, and later, in 1955, shifted its focus to collector cars. Over the years, the competition has garnered a huge fan following and it attracts enthusiasts from all over the world. As the name suggests, this is a competition of elegance and automobiles are judged on the basis of style, technical merit, history, originality and accuracy of their preservation or restoration. Over the years, the Concours also has presented a stage for the some unique concept cars and new car debuts as well.
