Honor 30S coming to Europe, might be a rebranded Huawei P40 Lite 5G
The Honor 30S was launched in China earlier this year, and now the name is rumored to appear outside the company's domestic market. However, we say "name", because alleged renders reveal this isn't the same phone. A detailed inspection of the Huawei portfolio reveals we've already seen this phone - this is actually the Huawei nova 7 SE (which is also known as the Huawei P40 Lite 5G, but which you shouldn't confuse with the Huawei P40 Lite). European Honor 30S While it's hard to confirm the authenticity of these renders, it wouldn't be a surprise for Huawei and its...

Toyota Kirloskar Motor reports sales of 1,639 units in May 2020
-
After zero sales in April, Toyota sold 1,639 units in the domestic market in May 2020
-
The carmaker had sold 7,023 in March 2020; 12,138 units sold in May 2019
-
Export figure for the month stands at 928 units
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has reported sales of 1,639 vehicles in India in May 2020. While the number represents an 86.5 percent drop compared to May 2019’s 12,138-unit sales figure, the sales have come at a time when Toyota is restarting operations amid easing lockdown restrictions. Like all other manufacturers, Toyota had posted zero sales and production in April 2020. Toyota was among the first manufacturers to stop production in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, a fact also reflected in its below average March 2020 sales of 7,023 units.
The month of May witnessed gradual restart of Toyota dealerships in certain parts of the country. By mid-May, almost 60 percent of Toyota dealerships were operational. However, this did not comprise key metropolitan markets. As the lockdown relaxed, TKM was able to cater to customers in other markets as well.
The Japanese carmarker officially resumed production on May 25. As on that day, over 290 Toyota dealerships and 230 service centres in India had resumed operations.
Commenting on the sales last month, Naveen Soni, Senior Vice-President, Sales & Service, TKM said, “We are thankful to the government as well as to our supplier and dealer partners who have enabled us resume production last month. We are conscious of the dealer business conditions in various parts of the country and we have been prioritising production at our end as per dealer requirements, both in terms of quantity as well as the grades that they require. The market has been slow and with demand being less, we have been able to wholesale only 20 percent of what we would have clocked under a normal situation. However, retail sales (sale from dealer to customer) have been much higher when compared to wholesales (TKM sales to dealers), thereby helping us reduce the month closing inventory levels at dealerships. We have also seen a significant surge in customer orders and enquiries online, through digital platforms.
"From a sales and service point of view, business is ramping up and we are exceeding 50 percent of our normal capacity from the open outlets."

Skoda Karoq vs rivals: Price, specifications comparison
Looking for an urban SUV that’s a bit more upmarket than the extremely popular Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta? The new Skoda Karoq should be on your shortlist. But how does the Karoq stack up against its closest rivals, the VW T-Roc and Jeep Compass? Read on to know.
Which one is largest?
Karoq vs T-Roc vs Compass: Dimensions
Karoq | T-Roc | Compass | |
Length | 4382mm | 4234mm | 4395mm |
Width | 1841mm | 1819mm | 1818mm |
Height | 1624mm | 1573mm | 1640mm |
Wheelbase | 2638mm | 2590mm | 2636mm |
Boot space | 521 litres | 445 litres | 438 litres |
The Jeep Compass is the longest and tallest amongst the trio, so it’s likely to appeal to those buyers seeking ‘road presence’. The Karoq is merely 3mm shorter in length and 16mm lower in height, compared to the Jeep, and what’s more is that it is the widest model here. The Karoq has the longest wheelbase too, if only by 2mm. The Volkswagen T-Roc is the smallest in size here, and is comparable to the much cheaper Maruti S-Cross in terms of dimensions. In terms of practicality, the Karoq gets the biggest boot, followed by the T-Roc and the Jeep.
Which one gets the most features?

Ambient lighting | Yes | No | No |
For the comparison, we’ve considered the equipment list of the Jeep Compass’ top-spec Limited Plus variant. The other two SUVs are available in only a single, fully-loaded variant. All three SUVs are closely matched in terms of features, although the Karoq offers a bit more in terms of safety and some feel-good kit. Even so, it’s hard to justify that Rs 5 lakh premium over the T-Roc.
Which one is most powerful?
Karoq vs T-Roc vs Compass: Powertrain
Karoq | T-Roc | Compass | |
Engine | 1.5-litre turbo-petrol | 1.5-litre turbo-petrol | 1.4-litre turbo-petrol |

0-100kph (tested) | 10.03s | - | 10.29s* |
*BS4 version’s time
**Kerb weight includes driver
The Skoda Karoq and the Volkswagen T-Roc share their engine and transmission. Both models come powered by a 1,498cc, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. With identical power and torque numbers, as well as a similar kerb weight, both these are likely to offer similar levels of performance. Interestingly, both the Karoq and T-Roc are equipped with active cylinder deactivation technology, which switches off up to two cylinders in the interest of fuel efficiency.
The Jeep Compass’s 1,368cc, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine is the smallest unit here but also delivers the most power. However, the Compass is the heaviest SUV in the trio and this reflects in its power-to-weight and torque-to-weight ratios. The engine’s punchy power delivery, however, makes the Jeep accelerate to 100kph from a standstill in just 10.29 seconds despite its weight disadvantage; the lighter Karoq with its linear power delivery is marginally quicker, dispatching the sprint in just 10.03 seconds. We haven’t got a chance to strap on our testing equipment to the VW T-Roc just yet.
The Jeep does have an important edge over its German rivals. Unlike the single-spec T-Roc and Karoq, the Compass is available in a variety of engine-gearbox versions, and offers buyers the all-important option of a diesel. In addition to the turbo-petrol automatic in focus here, Jeep offers a turbo-petrol manual variant, as well as a diesel engine, ,which comes with manual and automatic options, and front- or four-wheel drive.
How do they compare on price?
Karoq vs T-Roc vs Compass: Price
Karoq | T-Roc | Compass (AT)*
Price (ex-showroom, India) | Rs 24.99 lakh | Rs 19.99 lakh | Rs 19.69-21.92 lakh |
*Ex-showroom, Delhi
The Skoda Karoq is the priciest SUV here. It’s being brought to India as a full-import and attracts the highest taxes and duties. However, the VW T-Roc that’s also brought in as an import is a full Rs 5 lakh cheaper, and doesn’t trail the Karoq in terms of equipment by all that big a margin.
The Jeep Compass has the lowest starting price. Even its fully-loaded top-spec Limited Plus variant sits at Rs 21.92 lakh; a cool Rs 3 lakh lesser than the Karoq. What’s more is that the Compass is also available with a 6-speed manual gearbox mated to the 1.4-litre turbo engine, but that’s available only in the base variant, which is priced significantly lower at Rs 16.49 lakh.
Which is the SUV of interest?
Going purely by specs and numbers, the Jeep Compass seems to be a bit larger than the Skoda Karoq in dimensions, and its engine and transmission offer comparable performance. The T-Roc is the smallest of the bunch, so it might not appeal to those looking for road presence from their ‘SUV’, but with its radical styling, it is the one that’s bound to stand-out in a crowd. The Karoq appears to be the best-equipped of the three SUVs here, but it is also the priciest. Which is the best to drive? Only a real-world comparison will be able to answer that, so watch this space.

Review: Hyundai Aura long term review, first report
For the most part, the Hyundai Aura is just a mild rehash of the Xcent – the compact sedan it effectively replaces in the brand’s line-up. It has the same basic shape and more or less the same dimensions. It has, of course, been updated with all the modern trappings our ever-hungry (at times unreasonably so) market demands, but there’s one thing we didn’t expect to find in a compact sedan, and it’s something I suspect no potential customers would’ve asked for either. Stay with me.
First, though, after a year of running a midsize sedan – the simple but incredibly competent Maruti Suzuki Ciaz – it was time to switch back to a compact sedan. The size of the car wouldn’t be an issue since my usage is mostly alone, and in the stifling bustle of Mumbai’s rush-hour, the smaller the better. I was more concerned that moving a segment lower might see me give up some creature comforts. But this is Hyundai so, apart from perhaps auto headlamps, the Aura matched up and then some. It even has a wireless phone charger. Particularly impressive is the single-piece binnacle for the large 8.0-inch touchscreen and the instrument cluster, which is a very premium touch.
I don’t care much for the way the car looks on the outside. Though the proportions are pretty good (by the low standard of compact sedans) and there are some dramatic details, it all looks a bit discordant. But I also don’t care, because I spend my time in the driver’s seat, and that experience is top-notch. They’ve really upped the material quality this time, and there’s a richness to this interior that belies its price and segment. Knurled switchgear, rotary air-con vents that twirl shut, rich fabric upholstery; it’s got the lot. Plus, this version has red accents in all the right places, which signals its sporty intent.
And that brings us on to that one unique item. It’s a 1.0-litre, direct injection turbo-petrol engine that makes 100hp and 172Nm of torque! Other carmakers had (admittedly expensive) engines like this but reserved them for a single halo performance model, not wanting to risk negative perception of a displacement that was too low or cylinders (three) that were too few. And now those engines are gone. Hyundai, instead, is making sure it offers this unit in as many cars as possible, thus helping broaden its acceptance.
It’s a risk I’m happy they took because this incredible little motor turns this shrew of a sedan into an absolute rocket. The best part is that it’s really smooth and docile crawling off the line; so you don’t get a sense of the power until you really floor it. And this being my first time driving the Aura Turbo, you can imagine my pleasant surprise when I did. The rest of the car struggles to keep up, actually – the front tyres scrabble for grip and there’s loads of torque steer, which is something Hyundai should look into in the long run. It’s exciting at best, but a little unsettling at worst.
Due to the lockdown, my time driving the car has been brief, but suffice it to say, I plan to put many memorable miles on this unexpectedly interesting little Hyundai.

Flashback: the Motorola Nexus 6 was the best in the series and it changed Google
The Motorola Nexus 6 came at a strange time. Google had just sold off the Motorola division to Lenovo months earlier and the smartphone world was in a sudden transition to 64-bit processors. Also, flagship prices were on the rise, something Google tried to fight with the affordable Nexus 4 and 5, but this phone was different. With the Nexus 6, Google attempted to create a premium device and in many respects it succeeded. However, the $650 price tag for the 32GB model did not sit right with many Nexus fans and the larger 5.96" display had its detractors as well. This was large even by the...

Weekly poll results: most people are looking to spend $200-$600 on their next phone
Most people are looking to buy a phone in the $200-$600 range, shows last week's poll. The lower half of that price range proved the most popular, meaning that $200-$400 is the sweet spot for new devices. This also means that Apple hit the bullseye with the iPhone SE (2020), which is exactly $400 if you can make do with 64GB storage. The upgrade to 128GB costs $50, which pushes things into the next price range, but that's not unexpected for Apple. Still, an Apple A13 chipset at $400 should be a wake-up call to Android makers and probably Qualcomm too - Apple's chipset is in a league of...

Piaggio patents trike with leaning rear wheels
-
Piaggio has patented a unique three-wheel design with two wheels at the rear
-
Most leaning trikes have two wheels at the front and one at the back
-
The patents reveal that the design uses a differential on the rear axle
Piaggio was quite early to adopt the three-wheeler format with it's MP3 range. The MP3, like many other other trikes – Yamaha's Niken, Triango's 50 and others – have a pair of wheels ahead and a single one at the rear. Now, new patents reveal that Piaggio has readied a design that's the opposite, with two wheels at the rear and a one up front.
While this setup is quite unconventional in the trike space, there are a few, like Harley-Davidson's Tri Glide Ultra and Freewheeler, that use this setup. That said, Piaggio's design further distinguishes itself with a unique rear-end that allows the engine and both rear wheels to lean.
Piaggio has achieved this by using a complex rear axle design. The patents reveal that the trike uses a differential that remains parallel to the ground and runs along the rear axle, even when the engine and wheels are leaned over. There are mechanisms that allow the wheels to pivot at the ends of the rear axle. The images also reveal a bar running parallel to the rear axle that links the suspension components at both ends to maintain equal lean on both rear wheels.
A complex setup like this would certainly result in a very different riding experience to a conventional trike, probably with less effort required at the steering. That said, there's no clarity on if, or when, Piaggio will bring something like this to production, and how much it will cost.

Emula Concept EV emulates petrol-powered motorcycles
-
McFly technology uses strategically placed speakers to produce engine and exhaust sounds
-
Can recreate the effect of changing gears and can change 'gear ratios'
-
Clutch and gear lever designed to generate the same feel as a regular motorcycle
"It is the feeling of disconnection that can make electric vehicles boring to ride." There, we said it. Agreed, they are great for the environment and in some cases can match, if not outperform, petrol-powered motorcycles. And then there's the low cost of running that seals the deal for electrics. But as strong as the EV buzz maybe, there's no denying that the experience of riding one is as bland as eating schezwan fried rice without even a hint of the fiery red paste in the mix!
Electric vehicles have no sound, no vibration and no feedback, and as a result, almost no emotion. There's just the whine of an electric motor and the accompanying wind noise. And let's be honest, with the steady proliferation of electric motorcycles, most of us will miss the pure joy of the sounds and sensations that an internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycle produce. Feel the sense of nostalgia creeping in already?
However, we're still at very early days and the beauty with EVs is that the possibilities are almost limitless. The Italian motorcycle you're reading about here is something that works hard to keep the special emotions of motorcycling intact, and perhaps even elevate it. Its party trick is the capability of emulating the sound and feel of a petrol-powered motorcycle, and not just one or two of these aspects. It's called the Emula.
The Emula's virtual side
The Emula is the brainchild of 2electron, an electric motorcycle manufacturer, based in Naples, Italy. The concept electric motorcycle debuted at EICMA 2019 and grabbed attention for its promise of being able to emulate the sounds of a regular, combustion-engined motorcycle. Which is why it is aptly called the Emula.
The Emula's concept is pretty simple. Using 2electron's proprietary McFly (a name most likely taken from the Back to Future series of movies) technology, the Emula can recreate the sound of different types of motorcycles. Some of the preset effects include a 1989 250cc, two-stroke twin; a 1999, 600cc, four-stroke inline-four; and a 2004, 800cc, four-stroke twin. While the promotional video only showcases these three effects, we expect the company to incorporate the sound and characteristics of a lot more motorcycles in the future. After all, with the hardware in place, it's just a matter of creating the software.
The McFly system plays the sounds through speakers located behind the fairing (for the engine notes) and in the rear cowl (for the exhaust notes). There's a subwoofer under the faux fuel tank, for added effect. Together, these speakers claim to produce the exact engine, exhaust and mechanical sounds that a regular motorcycle would produce. The Revolt RV 400 does a similar trick, but for the McFly system to be taken seriously, it'll have to perform a lot better than the Revolt.
However, that's not all. The company has also installed a virtual clutch and gear simulator, actuated by using a physical clutch and gear lever. It's replete with the satisfying click as you engage another gear. In a video Emula revealed of the prototype on the test bench, it certainly appears to sound and feel like an ICE motorcycle, accompanied by a slight jerk as the rider bangs up or down the virtual gearbox. The system can also create mild vibrations in the handlebar, footpegs and seat, taking the experience as close to the real deal.
All these features are controlled via an 8.0-inch, touchscreen display/instrument panel. The Emula also has Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity, which enables the rider to listen to the sounds using a Bluetooth helmet.
In reality
While that was all about the virtual aspects of the Emula, in reality, it is a proper electric motorcycle.
The design is quite sporty and so is the riding position, with low-set clip-ons and rear-set footpegs.
There is no information about the chassis, except the adjustable USD fork and monoshock that's visible in the images and the promotional video.
The bike is powered by an 'MK1' prototype electric motor that is said to produce 250Nm of peak torque. That's a huge number, which means this will be a very high performance machine. Power is sent to the rear wheel though a direct, single-speed transmission, because let's face it, with this much torque, it really doesn't need real gears. There is no information about battery capacity or charging times, both of which are expected to be revealed at a later stage.
Will the Emula Concept make it to production?
Well, that's an answer that only time will tell. It's one thing to create a concept, and a whole other to produce and retail it. As a concept, the Emula is intriguing as it promises to address many of the issues we have with EVs. The future of the world is growing more and more digital. If the motorcycles of the future cannot create the analogue feelings motorcyclists love, then a digital recreation would be the next best thing. The Emula currently looks to be leading the charge in this regard.

- Hyundai has exported over 3 million cars since it first started operations in India back in 1999
- Hyundai also currently exports ‘Made-In-India’ cars to 88 countries in four continents
Hyundai Motor India, which closed financial year (FY) 2020 as the No. 1 passenger vehicle exporter, has reported exports of over 5,000 units in May 2020. The Chennai-based carmaker began production at its plant on May 8.
In the last 20 years, since the Korean brand began operations in India back in 1999, Hyundai has cemented its position as the leading exporter of passenger cars exporting more than 3 million vehicles. In CY2019, Hyundai Motor India exported 1,81,200 units, with 792 customised variants according to country specific preference and demand. The company had a market share of 26 percent in CY2019 to the total exports of passenger cars from India.
Hyundai Motor India currently exports to multiple countries across Africa, Middle-East, Latin America, Australia and the Asia-Pacific. Clearly, its aggressive export strategy for shipping its made-in-India products is paying off. On September 24, 2019 it held the International Partner’s Meet 2019 in New Delhi where 60 of its global partners representing Hyundai from several countries including South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Vietnam, Chile, Peru and Columbia participated. Many new markets like Ethiopia, Zambia and Ghana were also explored for export of the Atos (Santro in India). The representatives got a close look at the company's latest product line-up – the Venue, Grand i10 Nios, Atos (Santro in India) – at the event held at the Buddh F1 circuit.
Speaking at that event, S S Kim, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India had said, “Hyundai Motor India plays a key strategic role in Hyundai Motor Company’s global export plans for the world markets. Our consistent efforts towards ensuring world-class quality have helped us become a highly loved brand both in India and overseas. We are overwhelmed with the customer response and appreciation from international markets for made-in-India cars."
Currently, Hyundai India exports 10 models, namely the Atos (Santro), Grand i10, Xcent, Grand i10 (Nios) and Grand i10 (Aura), Elite i20, i20 Active, Accent (Verna), Venue and new Creta. Globally, Hyundai exports ‘Made-In-India’ cars to 88 countries in 4 continents - Latin America (33 countries), Africa (28 countries), Asia Pacific (26 countries) and Europe (1 country).

Piaggio patents new active aero wing technology
-
Active aero winglets could have multiple applications
-
Electric motors control each wing independently
-
Active Aero is currently banned in MotoGP
The Piaggio group has patented a new active aero winglets technology that is expected to make its way to future two/three-wheelers. The patent was filed at the World Intellectual Property Office. This is the second time that Piaggo has filed a patent for active aero winglets, the first being when it presented the Aprilia RS660 concept at EICMA 2018.
Piaggio's new active aero winglets are designed to work independent of each other and help steer the vehicle, in addition to generating downforce or reducing drag. The patent drawings show the C-shaped active aero winglets attached to the fairing of the Piaggio MP3, a popular scooter in Europe. However, Piaggio probably has much bigger plans for this technology and we could see it debut on a future superbike.
How does the Piaggio active wing technology work?
Early forms of active aero seen in cars typically helped in a straight line, by increasing downforce under braking and reducing drag while accelerating. Piaggio's active wings are also designed to do the same but what sets them apart is their ability to also help steer the motorcycle. Let us take a closer look at how the system works.
The patent drawings reveal that the winglets on either side of the vehicle rotate up or down, independently of each other by means of an electric motor. In a scenario where the motorcycle is tipped into a corner, the wing on the inside is angled in such a way that it generates downforce while the one on the outside produces a slight lift. Similarly, at the exit of the corner, when the rider picks up the bike, the wing on the inside adjusts to generate lift while the one on the outside moves to generate a little downforce. Thus, it becomes easier to steer the motorcycle into a corner and out of it.
How are the Piaggio active winglets controlled?
Piaggio's patent file suggests that the rider could use handlebar-mounted controls to adjust the active wings. However, a more prudent system – and the one that'll make more sense – is an IMU-controlled mechanism. This relieves the rider of the responsibility and helps him/her concentrate on riding rather than fiddling with buttons at high speeds. The Aprilia RSV4 already uses IMU-based electronics so that's the first piece of the puzzle in place.
Will it make it to production vehicles?
It is certain that active aerodynamics are the future, at least, when it comes to high performance superbikes. A number of manufacturers, including Honda, are working on developing active aero wings. But as we've said, given the complexity of the technology and the apparent cost of development and testing, these advanced wings could remain the preserve of top-tier superbikes in the near future.
MotoGP currently bans active aero, but if the technology is seen on a production road bike, then it could also be used in a racing version of that bike in something like the World Superbike Championship. With that in mind, active aerodynamics is likely to debut on a production motorcycle before it makes it to the world of racing.

Samsung Galaxy Note20's battery could be 4,300 mAh after all
Samsung's Galaxy Note20+ will apparently have a 4,500 mAh battery, but what about the (slightly) smaller Note20? Back in April, word on the streets was 4,000 mAh. Now though, it looks like Samsung has managed to cram a bit more juice into the Note20's cell. After digging through the Chinese 3C's certification database, the enterprising folks at SamMobile have figured out that the model number for the battery that's going to be used in the Chinese version of the Note20 is EB-BN980ABY. Oh, and its capacity is 4,300 mAh. That's marginally better than what was thought before, and in...

Toyota Raize receives 5-star JNCAP crash test rating
- The 5-star JNCAP rating applies to the Toyota Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky
- Both models use the DNGA platform, a low-cost version of Toyota’s modular TNGA platform
- They scored 85.7/100 points in the crash tests and 73.6/141 points in the preventative safety performance tests
The Toyota Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky have been awarded a 5-star rating in collision safety by the Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP). The crash test rating is the highest that can be given to a vehicle – the Raize was given this rating by scoring 85.7/100 points in the crash tests, where it performed exceptionally well in the front and side impact tests. By scoring 73.6/141 points in the preventative safety performance test, the Raize was given a ASV++ rating, which is the second highest possible. It scored well in the lane-keep and rear-view monitoring tests.
What is the relation between the Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky?
Toyota and Daihatsu co-developed the sub-four-metre Raize and Rocky SUVs. Both use the flexible DNGA platform, which is essentially a low-cost version of Toyota’s modular TNGA platform meant for emerging markets. This means the Daihatsu Rocky features the same dimensions, platform and even engine-gearbox options as the Toyota Raize. Hence, the safety rating is applicable to both models.
What is the difference between JNCAP and Global NCAP?
One of the big differences is that the JNCAP only tests cars available in the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM), while the Global NCAP (GNCAP) tests cars from various emerging markets to improve cooperation between the different NCAP agencies. Another difference is that every New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) has its own protocols for conducting crash tests and awarding points, hence the results are not interchangeable. Still, achieving the highest rating of 5 stars bodes well for any car.
How is the Toyota Raize relevant to the Indian market?
It is no secret that for a while now, Maruti Suzuki has wanted to add a midsize SUV to its range to rival the Hyundai Creta. We confirmed late last year that Maruti Suzuki, in partnership with Toyota, will introduce a midsize SUV in our market, to do just that. This SUV will be based on the same DNGA platform as the Toyota Raize. Though unlike the Raize, which is a sub-four-metre model in terms of length, this new SUV will be around 4.3 metres-long, which is in line with other midsize SUVs in India, from the Creta and Seltos to the Kicks and Captur.
Further making use of its partnership with Maruti Suzuki, Toyota is also slated to launch the Urban Cruiser compact SUV in August 2020. The Urban Cruiser will be based on the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, with some alterations in select areas.

Nissan 400Z previewed before 2021 debut
-
The first look at the new ‘Z’ sportscar came via a recent product planning presentation
-
This successor to the aging 370Z is expected to be called the 400Z and be revealed in the next 12 months
-
No statement has been released regarding which markets the new model will be offered in
Nissan has previewed the long-awaited successor to its 370Z sports car in a presentation outlining its future product strategy.
Official details of the mysterious new car are thin on the ground, but we can see it will have styling evolved from the 370Z coupé and will be the latest addition to the Japanese brand's Z sports car lineage – begun in 1969 with the launch of the iconic Datsun 240Z.
The preview comes following Nissan's announcement that it's to embark on a wide-reaching cost-cutting strategy under the 'Nissan Next' banner. As well as closing its commercial vehicles plant in Barcelona, Spain, the company will reduce production capacity by 20 percent over the next three years and streamline its ageing product portfolio.
The 370Z is the oldest car in Nissan's current line-up, having launched in its current form in 2008. The company's product planning boss, Ivan Espinosa, told our sister publication Autocar UK at last year's Tokyo motor show that the sportscar – along with the flagship GT-R – was "at the heart of Nissan" and that the company was "actively looking at and working on" a successor.
We expect the new ‘Z’ sportscar will be called the 400Z and be powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 with more power than the current car. It's unlikely to sit on a bespoke platform, given its relatively low sales volumes, and could instead make use of the rear-driven underpinnings from Nissan sibling brand Infiniti's Q50 and Q60 models.
Nissan recently submitted a trademark application for a restyled version of the Z badge, fuelling speculation that a new sportscar was on the way. The badge's retro look hinted that the new model will take styling inspiration from Nissan's historic sports cars, potentially with a sharp front-end like that of the 240Z and distinctive brake lights inspired by the 300ZX.
The interior of the new model is earmarked for a significant redesign, too; the 370Z was frequently criticised for being outdated compared to its rivals. Expect a focus on premium materials throughout and for the current car's basic touchscreen to be replaced with a modern infotainment system with access to various connectivity services.
Nissan is expected to reveal the new 400Z in international markets within the next 12 months. The carmaker has made no statements regarding which markets the new sportscar will be available in. It is worth mentioning that Nissan did offer the 370Z sportscar in India from 2010, up until when the car was discontinued in 2014. However, the 370Z is still offered in a number of markets abroad.

Indian Motorcycle files trademark for two new names
-
Indian files trademarks for two potential model names – ‘Indian Pursuit’ and ‘Indian Guardian’
-
Names could be used on motorcycles for law enforcement personnel
-
Could be for a new model that features the new 1,768cc PowerPlus engine.
Indian Motorcycle has filed trademark applications for two potential model names – 'Indian Pursuit’ and ‘Indian Guardian’ – with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The trademarks have been registered for use on “Motorcycles and structural parts therefore”. Like most trademark applications, there isn't anything else revealed on what the names will be used for.
However, the source article has speculated on what the names could be used for. The Indian Pursuit and Guardian are both law enforcement-related monikers and the source claims that they could be the names of motorcycles that will be supplied to the police. While this is merely speculation, it does make sense considering Indian’s parent company, Polaris, does have a law enforcement and military division that makes specially prepared UTVs. As manufacturers like Honda, BMW and Harley-Davidson provide motorcycles to law enforcement personnel in countries across the world, Indian joining this list isn't all that unlikely.
Typically, these vehicles are modified versions of commercial models. Hence, we could bikes from the Bagger or Cruiser line, like the Chief Vintage or the Challenger, be rebadged for police use.
On the other hand, we can’t completely rule out the possibility that these trademarked names will find their way onto motorcycles for the general public as well. Perhaps a new motorcycle featuring the 1,768cc PowerPlus engine – Indian’s most powerful engine to-date – that currently powers the new Challenger.
At the moment, there is no indication on when we can expect these new models, or even if they will come into existence at all. Over a year ago, Indian trademarked the ‘Renegade’ and ‘Raven’, but neither has made it to a production motorcycle yet. Naturally, any plans to do so may also have been delayed owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
