It was just a couple of days ago that Nissan India confirmed that the BS6 Kicks was due to launch soon, and that it would get a new 156hp, 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine. Now, new details have emerged about the 2020 Kicks, including the ARAI-rated mileage, the variants on offer and what features each Kicks variant will come with.
As we had reported earlier, the likable k9k diesel engine has been discontinued and as a result, the BS6 Kicks gets the 106hp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and the new 156hp, 1.3-litre turbo-petrol unit. Incidentally, the turbo-petrol engine was showcased in the Renault Duster at Auto Expo 2020 and is expected to arrive not long after the Kicks BS6. In total, the 2020 Kicks will be available with three powertrain options - the 1.5 petrol-MT, 1.3 turbo-petrol-MT and 1.3 turbo-petrol-CVT. The 8-step CVT automatic in question is a new gearbox that has eight simulated ratios when put in manual mode. While the ARAI-rated mileage of the CVT has yet to be revealed, the 1.5 petrol-manual and 1.3 turbo-petrol-manual are rated at 14.1kpl and 16.3kpl, respectively.
Unlike the outgoing BS4 petrol model, the BS6 Kicks comes in XL, XV, XV Premium and XV Premium (O) variants. The 1.5 petrol engine is only available in the entry-level XL and the mid-spec XV trims. Nissan offers the turbo-petrol with manual and automatic options in XV and XV Premium variants, but the top-spec XV Premium (O) is only offered in manual form.
