BS6 BMW G 310 R, G 310 GS to launch on October 8
BMW Motorrad India is all set to launch the 2020 G 310 R and G 310 GS on October 8.
-
Teaser hints at improved engine refinement
-
Updates include all-LED lighting
-
Bookings began on September 1, 2020
2020 BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS styling updates
The new BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS have received small updates to the styling as well as a BS6-compliant engine.
While BMW is yet to reveal the motorcycles, a few teaser images have given us a taste of what to expect. The new BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS will get all-LED lighting, with an integrated DRL in the headlamp. This was also spotted on a test mule, back in July 2020.
2020 BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS engine details
The BMW G 310 twins use the same 312.2cc, single-cylinder, fuel injected, liquid-cooled engine that powers the BS6 Apache RR 310. For the uninitiated, BMW Motorrad and TVS have co-developed the 310 platform.
The BMW teaser hints at improved engine refinement, a lack of which was a major concern with the BS4 G 310s. TVS has already addressed that issue to quite an extent with its BS6 Apache RR 310, as we found out during the test. The Apache also gets ride-by-wire, four riding modes, TFT display and smartphone connectivity. It will be interesting to see if BMW offers some, if not all of those features on the 2020 G 310 R and G 310 GS.
Bookings for the 2020 G 310 R and G 310 GS have begun
BMW Motorrad dealers across India have already begun accepting bookings for the new G 310 R and G 310 GS. Customers can visit any BMW Motorrad dealership or fill up an enquiry form on the brand’s website to make their booking. The company says deliveries will be done on a first-come-first-serve basis.

It was an OS for TVs that offered support for streaming apps, and as a core TV operating system. The platform would eventually be succeeded by “Android TV” until this day. The new Google TV is still based on Android TV, but it’s a UI skin that’s unique to the new Google Chromecast for now, though Google did say that it would be adding...

-
Changes are cosmetic, with the running gear shared with the 620hp R8 V10 Performance
Audi R8 Green Hell styling changes
Limited to just 50 units worldwide, the R8 Green Hell is priced at €233,949 (about Rs 2.01 crore) in Germany. It is offered in a special dark green paint scheme, although customers can also choose grey, white or black.
The bonnet, A-pillars, roof and rear end are partly covered in a matt black foil, while the doors feature transparent matt numbers similar to race car numbers.
There are also matt black highlights on the front end, sills, diffuser, mirror housing and rear wing, with the 20-inch wheels painted in the same colour, along with red detailing on the rims.
The interior gains lightweight bucket seats and Alcantara covering with blue-green stitching on the centre panels, instrument display shield, steering wheel, armrest and other areas.
Audi R8 Green Hell engine details
Beneath the new styling elements, the R8 Green Hell is mechanically unchanged from the R8 Performance and uses the same 620hp, naturally-aspirated, 5.2-litre V10 petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and Quattro all-wheel drive system. It posts a 0-100kph time of 3.1sec and a top speed of 331kph.
Audi R8 India outlook
The limited-run Green Hell is based on the facelifted version of the second-generation Audi R8 revealed in late-2018.
The pre-facelift R8 was on sale in India until 2018-19 at a price of Rs 3.21 crore (on-road, Mumbai), and though the updated supercar was initially slated to arrive in our market last year, the launch has, since then, been delayed.

2021 Hyundai i20 N Line revealed
The Hyundai i20 N Line has been revealed and it is a new performance-inspired, range-topper for its third-generation i20. This is the first time the i20 has received an N Line trim-level. The model is expected to be introduced in international markets in the first half of 2021.
- I20 N Line features updated interior and exterior styling.
- Internationally, it will get a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and the 1.2-litre petrol engine.
- Hyundai will launch the third-gen i20 in India this festive season.
New Hyundai i20 N Line design
As with the N Line version of the i30 hatchback, the i20 N Line features a number of new styling elements inspired by Hyundai’s N performance arm. This gives a good idea of what to expect from the full-bore i20 N hot hatch, when it arrives internationally, next year.
At the front, the N Line is set apart from lower trims by a new bumper with a grey contrasting stripe, a black grille with a “chequered flag”style pattern and a prominent N Line badge.
The motorsport-influenced theme continues at the rear, where the i20 N Line gains a diffuser-style bumper, a triangular fog-light like that of the i30 N hot hatch and a chrome twin-exit exhaust.
The N Line will be available in a choice of four exterior colours: Phantom Black, Aurora Grey, Brass and Polar White, the latter of which can be specified with a black roof. Rounding off the exterior styling package is a set of bespoke, two-tone 17-inch alloy wheels.
New Hyundai i20 N Line interiors
Its interior is largely familiar from the recently renewed i20, but gains N badging and red stitching throughout, sport front seats, a bespoke steering wheel, metal pedals and an N-branded leather gear knob.
The i20 N Line joins the standard car in receiving Hyundai’s Bluelink connectivity software and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems.
New Hyundai i20 N Line engine and gearbox
Hyundai’s i20 N Line will be offered in Europe with a choice of two engines, a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol with 84hp or a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder unit with 100hp or 120hp.
The powertrain is equipped with 48V mild-hybrid technology and optionally available with Hyundai’s new Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT), for boosted efficiency. Hyundai has also made tweaks to the car’s suspension, accelerator response and exhaust sound to enhance the driving experience.
Will the new Hyundai i20 N come to India?
While Hyundai hasn’t officially confirmed any plans to bring the i20 N Line to our market, it will launch the new third-gen i20 in India, this festive season.
The new Hyundai i20 will come with three engine options in India, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel. This will be accompanied by a number of new features available in the international model.
Once launched in India, the new Hyundai i20 will face competition from the Tata Altroz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Honda Jazz.

Dark mode for Google Maps begins rolling out for some Android users
A dark theme is making its way to Google Maps as some users are reporting. Google is rolling out an app-wide dark mode to Google Maps as of version 10.51.1 running on Android 11. The appearance setting in the app will let you force the dark theme indefinitely or match the Android phone’s universal system theme setting. Maserati MC20 to use bespoke Bridgestone Potenza tyres
The Maserati MC20 supercar, which premiered earlier this month, will be running on a set of bespoke Bridgestone Potenza tyres when deliveries of the performance-focused model commence in international markets in the second quarter of 2021. The tyres are said to have been custom-engineered to specifically match the driving dynamics of the new supercar.
- Bridgestone is the exclusive tyre supplier for Maserati’s new MC20 supercar
- Potenza tyres feature custom-engineered elements to enhance performance
- Special technique used to reduce development time for Potenza tyres
Custom-designed Bridgestone Potenza tyres for Maserati MC20
The MC20 is powered by Maserati’s new 3.0-litre, twin-turbo, ‘Nettuno’ V6 petrol engine that puts down 630hp and 730Nm of torque through the rear-wheels. Bridgestone claims to have developed a high performance version of its F1-derived ‘Potenza’ tyres, specifically for the MC20.
The Japanese tyre manufacturer says that the in-house-developed tyres feature elements such as an asymmetric tread design for improving steering response and cornering stability, a new tread compound to enhance grip and a structure that distributes footprint pressure evenly while cornering. The bespoke rubber helps the MC20 cover the 0-100kph sprint in a scant 2.9sec and hit the 200kph mark from a standstill in just 8.8sec. Top speed is rated at 325kph.
Bridgestone Potenza tyres development technique
Bridgestone has revealed that its efforts to develop custom tyres were aided by its proprietary ‘virtual tyre modelling technology’ that reduced the duration of the development process, something which was necessitated by the short, 24-month period in which the MC20 was designed. Moreover, the tyre maker’s virtual development technique also helped limit resource usage and, in turn, reduce environmental impact.
Commenting on the development of the Potenza tyres, Steven De Bock, VP, consumer replacement and OE, Bridgestone EMIA (Europe, Russia, Middle East, India and Africa), said, “Fully developed, tested and manufactured in Europe, these custom-designed Potenza tyres have been designed to meet the high demands of Maserati. Collaborating once again with Maserati, we developed a specially engineered Potenza tyre that enables Maserati’s MC20 to deliver on its power, control and sporting capabilities.”
Maserati MC20 India launch plans
As part of Maserati’s drive to expand its footprint in India, the MC20 will be launched in our market sometime in mid 2021. Considering that Bridgestone is the exclusive tyre partner for the supercar, expect the model to feature the same Potenza rubber in India as well.
Other than this, Maserati has also lined up the Trofeo versions of the Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante for our country.

Triumph Trident nears production
Triumph Motorcycle has just revealed, that the Trident concept that was first showcased back in August, is now in the final stages of testing.
-
Triumph Trident India launch in early 2021
-
Will use a three-cylinder engine
-
Gets a brand-new steel frame
The Triumph Trident
Triumph is creating a step for people to enter its naked motorcycle universe at a price point below the Street Triple range. This brand-new street naked motorcycle was showcased as a concept in August, but nothing about its specifications has been revealed.
The concept that was showcased was fully white, but this iteration is clad in camouflage test livery, giving us a better idea of what the final product will look like. Unlike the concept, this test mule also features production-spec hardware, like the wheels and full exhaust system. When the concept was unveiled, Triumph mentioned that the Trident will feature a swingarm mounted hugger for the number plate and that can be seen on this test mule.
Triumph has also shared an image of a rider atop the motorcycle and it has revealed that the Trident will be a rather compact offering.
Triumph Trident engine
It’s the engine that Triumph believes will truly set the Trident apart from the competition. This will be the first triple-cylinder motorcycle in the segment, the others being the Kawasaki Z650 and Yamaha MT-07, with their parallel-twin engines, and the Honda CB650, with its inline-four motor. Triumph says that the Trident's Street Triple-inspired engine has an advantage over its rivals, as it can offer the low-end grunt of a twin as well as the top-end rush of a four-cylinder engine. It’s possible that this motor will be based on the 660cc engine from the 2020 Street Triple S, but the changes it will come with and whether it keeps the displacement figure is unclear at the moment.
Triumph Trident launch
Triumph has already said that the Trident will launch, early next year. Considering that the bike is in its final stages of testing, we could see a full unveil, later this year. We know that the 2021 Triumph Trident will be made in Thailand and that spells options for the Indian arm. Triumph India could avail the benefits of the Thai Free Trade Agreement (FTA) or assemble the motorcycle in India itself. Whatever route they might choose, a price tag of Rs 6.5-7 lakh (ex-showroom) would help the Triumph Trident to generate interest in India.

Bestselling motorcycles in August 2020
After months of being in the red, the world’s largest motorcycle market is seeing an uptick in monthly numbers again. In August 2020, of the 15,59,665 two-wheelers sold, the motorcycle segment contributed 66 percent and with a 10.13 percent year-on-year growth. In comparison, scooters, with sales of 4,56,848 units (-12.30 percent) accounted for 29 percent and mopeds with 70,126 contributed 4.49 percent. A total of 215 electric two-wheelers were also sold during the month, accounting for 0.013 percent of total two-wheeler sales.
The top 10 bestsellers’ list below shows that the first five positions remain unchanged from August 2019. The big difference though is that the first four – Hero Splendor, Hero HF Deluxe, Honda CB Shine and the Bajaj Pulsar – have each improved on their year-ago sales. Cumulatively, these four add up to 6,02,804 units, which marks a 34 percent YoY increase (August 2019: 531,519) and account for 58 percent of the total 10,32,476 motorcycles sold in India last month.
1. Hero Splendor: 2,32,301 units
The undisputed king of the motorcycle world sold 2,32,301 units in August 2020, which translates into 7,493 Splendors being sold every single day.
The Splendor range consists of three models – the Splendor Plus, Splendor iSmart and the Super Splendor – and the Splendor Plus continues to be the most affordable with a starting price of Rs 59,600. The Super Splendor, meanwhile, is the most expensive variant, starting at Rs 67,300.
Also see: BS6 Hero Splendor Plus launched at Rs 59,600
2. Hero HF Deluxe: 1,77,168 units
Adding to the Splendor’s power on the motorcycle market is its sibling, the HF Deluxe. With 1,77,168 units sold in August 2020, this commuter saw a 10 percent YoY increase. Early in January 2020, Hero launched the BS6 HF Deluxe and priced the base variant at Rs 55,925 and the i3S variant at Rs 57,250 (both prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).

4. Bajaj Pulsar: 87,202 units
The sporty Pulsar family which is all of nine variants strong – Pulsar 125, Pulsar 150, 150 Neon, 150 Twin Disc, Pulsar 180F, Pulsar 220, NS160, NS200, and RS200 – clocked sales of 87,202 units in August 2020, up 23 percent (August 2019: 70,562).
Between May and July 2020, Bajaj Auto has hiked its product portfolio more than once, but that has done little to dampen the enthusiasm of buyers.

5. Hero Glamour: 54,315 units
The third Hero in the top 10 list, the Hero Glamour looks to be getting back in the game. Once a powerful seller, numbers had dropped substantially. However, this motorcycle is seeing demand return. In August 2020, it sold 54,315 units, albeit down 10.5 percent on year-ago sales.

The second Bajaj bike in the top 10, the Platina sold a total of 40,294 units last month, down 10 percent than the 44,774 units it sold in August 2019.

India’s most affordable motorcycle sold 34,863 units in August 2020. Despite receiving a BS6 upgrade that made it nearly Rs 9,400 more expensive than its BS4 model, a starting price of Rs 42,790 means the Bajaj CT100 is still quite affordable.

Renault Triber: A brief overview
Launched last year, the Triber is one of a few cars that offers seating for up to seven occupants while still keeping its footprint under four metres. A unique feature is the option to remove and stow the two seats that make up the third row to increase the luggage space as the situation demands.
At the time of launch, the Triber was offered with a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. This was further expanded to include an AMT gearbox option earlier this year following the introduction of the BS6-compliant model.
The Triber is also expected to receive a more powerful 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine option.
Renault Triber competitors
The Triber’s closest rival is the Datsun Go+ which too offers seating for up to seven in a sub-4-metre footprint. Five-seat rivals include the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Ford Figo.
With the revision in pricing, the Triber’s prices now start above the 1.2-litre petrol powered Grand i10 Nios (Rs 5.07-7.69 lakh)* though the Swift (Rs 5.19-8.02 lakh)* and petrol Figo (Rs 5.49-7.05 lakh)* have higher starting prices. The Datsun Go+ (Rs 4.20-6.90 lakh)* is the least expensive car here.

Sponsored feature: How Permagard can help protect your car
A global leader in paint protection technology and with operations in more than 23 countries, Permagard is now in India. The company produces protective coatings for automobiles, yachts and aircrafts and these coatings are designed to deliver peak performance in even the toughest of environments and provide unmatched long-term paint protection.
Permagard products are based on cutting-edge engineering expertise garnered over decades of intensive research and development. In fact, depending upon the intended application, *Permagard products are tested at heights of up to 40,000 feet, at temperatures ranging from -50 to +50 degrees Celsius, at speeds of up to 850kph, and for distances of up to 1.6 million kilometers a year.* This harsh testing ensures optimum real-world performance for the end user. No wonder, then, that Permagard solutions have the stamp of approval from global brands like Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Boeing and Airbus, amongst others.
The Permagard shine philosophy revolves around a molecular relationship that result in extreme bonding, stabilizing, gloss-producing, curing process, corrosion protection and hydrophobic efficiency.
The essential oils used in the making of paint, oxidizes with time, due to sunlight, UV radiation, airborne pollutants, salt / hard water, diesel fumes and even bird droppings. With the application of environmentally safe, eco-friendly, hypoallergenic, Permagard solutions, your car’s paint gets a high-quality protective coating and an almost liquid, glass-like sheen that provides strong protection against the elements. *The company’s patented reactive polymer technology and UV filtering technologies provide long-term protection against paint fading and oxidation.* As an added bonus, Permagard-treated surfaces only need to be cleaned with water. Auto enthusiasts can also use the *Permagard 380 GSM microfiber cloth* with our *PH neutral Permagard Shampoo* to keep their cars shining & protect the painted surface.
While Permagard products can, of course, be applied to new vehicles, *older vehicles can also get the same paint rejuvenation benefits.* Certified Permagard technicians first carry out an extensive cleaning of your car’s paint surface and fill in all micro-scratches, marks and swirls. After this, the paintwork is re-sealed and restored to showroom condition, followed by once-a-year application of Permagard paint protection to keep your vehicle looking brand-new.
Permagard protection extends beyond just your car’s exteriors and can also keep the interiors in pristine condition. *The company’s interior co-polymer technology ensures that all the materials used inside your car’s cabin – including the carpet, leather (and/or leather-like material) upholstery, fabric, plastics, and vinyl – look, feel and smell new for years.* Stains are easily cleaned with nothing more than water, while the protective coating blocks UV rays and prevents cracking and fading, which otherwise takes place due to exposure to sunlight.
*Permagard’s Antimicrobial Shield disinfectant treatment utilizes the most advanced germ-killing technology, which is so effective that it kills almost 99.999% of viruses and bacteria instantly while coming in contact with them.* Lysis technology ambushes and assassinates viruses & germs by deflating the cell membrane of the microbe and eradicating its edifice. Microscopic nanoparticles coat the surface and kill the pathogens by piercing & rupturing the cells, before it settles & penetrates onto the surface making it effective not to let the further molds & mildews grow. It removes odours and makes your car a healthier place to be in. The antimicrobial shield also instantly kills COVID-19 type virus.

Branded content: Motor Insurance Claims Made Easy with E-Claims via Video Streaming
Everyone is aware that claim settlements are a cumbersome process that requires several meetings with insurance company officials to get a single process completed, or even to get it initiated. However, modern consumers want everything at their disposal and they want it yesterday. Thankfully, insurance companies have been very helpful in catering to their requirement and making this process way less time consuming than before. With the help of technological innovations, now you can easily get your two wheeler or car insurance claims settled within a day without the hassle of fixing appointments and running to and fro from the garage and the company office.
E-claims via video streaming are here to make car insurance much easier. It has allowed the consumer to file for claim settlement up to Rs. 50,000 within a day. It is hassle-free, cost effective, time-effective, and possibly everything we ever wanted from an insurance company. We might witness more companies using this facility to increase the ease of access for their clients and get better engagement as well.
Let’s find out how you can file an e-claim with your car or two wheeler insurance company!
What is an E-claim?
E-claim is the procedure of filing for a claim settlement online, without the need to visit the insurance company office. With this new technology, a representative or surveyor will be able to assess your car via video streaming, and advice you on next steps, and get the claim settled, that is, get the amount sent to your account within a day. It is just as easy as the process of buying car insurance online.
The current technology in use for this process is known as ‘Intelligent Video Streaming and Settlement’ or ‘i-ViSS’.
Process of E-claiming
With the i-ViSS system in place, the claim settlement process has obviously been simplified multifold. It involves a five-stage procedure that offers a streamlined solution to the consumer.
Here’s how you can use it for your vehicle:
- Car owner needs to intimate the insurer about the claim by connecting with the call center or the agent.
- The company will then forward an i-ViSS link to the owner via text message
- Clicking on the link allows launching the live stream connecting the surveyor and the car owner. The official will assess the car through the stream and advise the next steps accordingly.
- The surveyor then goes on to upload the stream recording or photographs of the repaired vehicle along with claim details to avail the future claim on the said vehicle.
- Within 24 hours, the sanctioned amount is disbursed by the insurance company to the owner’s bank account as registered with them. This amount can be used to get all the damages repaired at any time and at any service center of the customer’s choice.
This process has proved to be a boon for all. Now it is easier to get more done in less time. However, there are some factors that limit its efficiency but the companies are taking extra care to not let it become a barrier in user experience and satisfaction.

Oppo Reno4 Z 5G goes official as rebranded A92s
Today in Taiwan, Oppo made the newest member of the growing Reno4 family official. We're talking about the Reno4 Z 5G, which, just as we thought last month when it got certified, is nothing but a rebranded Oppo A92s. Seriously, the two phones are completely identical, save for the name and the fact that the Reno4 Z has just one RAM/storage version (8GB/128GB) and it's missing the pink color option. Like the A92s, which was released back in April, the Reno4 Z is powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 800 chipset. The phone has a 6.57-inch 1080x2400 20:9 LCD touchscreen with 120 Hz refresh...

Best-selling scooters in August 2020
In August 2020, the two-wheeler segment clocked sales of 15,59,665 units, marking a marginal 3 percent year-on-year growth. Here's a closer look at their performance in August 2020 as well as their cumulative sales from April-August 2020.
1. Honda Activa: 1,93,607 units

In August 2020, the Activa sold a total of 1,93,607 units, which constitutes a 17.36 percent YoY decline. The fall in sales is greater for the April-August 2020 period: 4,62,014 units versus 11,44,317 in April-August 2019, down by a massive 60 percent.

HMD Global publishes, then retracts Nokia Android 11 update timeline
Here's something weird and interesting. HMD Global, the company making Nokia smartphones, has published its (very rough) timeline for when you should expect its devices to get the update to Android 11. Hold on, you say - that's neither weird nor (when you see how vague it is) that interesting. Well, the weird and interesting bit is that the company has quickly taken the timeline down after publishing it. So we're not quite sure what's going on here. Maybe someone made it live too soon, but if so - why exactly would it be "too soon"? Android 11 has been out since the beginning of the...

New Ford SUVs for India to be designed by Pininfarina
That Ford and Mahindra are jointly developing new SUVs for the Indian market is not news at this point, but sources now tell us that these SUVs will be designed by none other than Pininfarina. With a legacy of creating some of the most desirable designs, including a long line of jaw-dropping supercars, this news bodes well for how eye-catching the upcoming Ford SUVs will be.
- New range of Ford SUVs to be designed by Pininfarina
- First Pininfarina-designed Ford SUV will be based on the next-gen XUV500
- Next-gen EcoSport also expected to be designed by Pininfarina
Which is Ford’s first Pininfarina-designed SUV for India?
The first model to emerge from the Mahindra-Ford joint venture will be a new C-SUV.The platform and engines will be shared between what will be the next-gen XUV500 (code: W601) and Ford’s version of the SUV(code: CX757).
This new Ford C-SUV, which will rival the likes of the Tata Harrier and MG Hector and sit above the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, will be the first one to be designed by Pininfarina.
When Ford’s new SUV arrives after the launch of the next-gen XUV500 early next year, it is expected to share its180hp, 2.2-litre diesel and the 190hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines. The latter has recently made its debut on the second-generation Thar.
Which other Ford SUVs will be designed by Pininfarina for India?
Following the launch of the C-SUV will be a smaller B-segment SUV that will directly rival the Creta, Seltos and Nissan Kicks, and will have a length of 4.3m.
The Ford BX745 will be unveiled in the second half of FY22andshare its underpinnings with the upcoming Mahindra XUV400 (S204). Like the C-SUV, the Ford BX745 SUV will also be designed by the Mahindra-owned design house.
A 163hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine from Mahindra’s mStallion family and a 123hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine are expected to power both B-SUVs.
While Ford’s current compact SUV is nearing the end of its lifecycle, the next-gen EcoSport (code: BX744) is said to be underdevelopment and is also likely to get design inputs from Pininfarina. Although a 2021 launch was mooted, this may be delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Expect it to carry forward the engines from the soon-to-be-updated current EcoSport, there are more details on that below.
Both brands had confirmed that while the new SUVs may share certain mechanical components, they will be unique in design. Whether this means Mahindra’s SUVs will not be designed by Pininfarina is yet to be confirmed.
The American company also promises that its models will retain the fun-to-drive character that Ford cars are known for.
What else is in the pipeline for Ford India?
Before these three new SUVs arrive, the current Ford EcoSport will soon get a Mahindra engine, the 1.2-litre T-GDI engine that made its debut at Auto Expo 2020 in the Mahindra XUV300 Sportz.
As this three-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol unit makes 130hp and 230Nm of peak torque, the EcoSport will continue to be the most powerful compact SUV on sale. Expect the Mahindra-powered EcoSport to launch early next year.
